“Easy move” defense rule
Defense in Formula 1 is quite similar to other open wheels. You can not aggressively block a driver trying to pass you; rather, it is against the rules. It can block the interior and be quite aggressive, but weaving and similar movements are excluded. However, drivers love to cross borders.
Drivers must complete the qualification within 107% of the Pole-Sitter
This rule was introduced a few years ago to ensure that terribly slow cars do not disturb the rest of the network. Almost all cars must complete 107% of the fastest driver’s lap time. For the year 2021, however, two major changes have been made to the racing weekends in Formula 1. Friday’s attempt has now been shortened from 90 minutes to just one hour. And Formula 1 will test a “sprint qualifier” over three laps, with the traditional qualifying class on Friday afternoon, and a 100km sprint race on Saturday that sets the grid for Sunday’s Grand Prix.
They earn a point for the fastest round
This is a rule that was introduced two years ago with suspicion. But it became quite popular. The fastest lap in the F1 race has been a source of pride for many years. But in 2019, the point was awarded to the one who ran the race’s fastest lap. Sometimes he added spices when drivers left new tires late to steal an extra point.
If a motor part is replaced, you will receive a penalty
This is hugely unpopular. But it is the rule that is in place in an attempt to stop the insane consumption of engine suppliers. Drivers can only run three engines a year, and some components are equal or twice. If they exceed this (at least three electronic control units), they get ten seats. And there are ten every time they go more than once, five at any time after that.
Speeding Pit Lane? You will be punished
Do not exceed the speed of the F1 band. It’s a big no-no. Even in the early 1990s, there was no cash flow limit. So the cars drive, stop the pit and drive back from the pit lane. It was only after the deaths of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger that F1 introduced a speed limit in the pit lane in 1994.
They have to change ring connections in a race.
Do not get confused now. It’s not just about “drivers having to change tires”. Let’s analyze it. Three dry ring connections can be used during the race weekend and during the race itself. And in a race, the rider must change connections once. So in practice it is a mandatory stop. But there must be a change of combinations.
In previous seasons, the teams decided to choose their own ring connections, but in 2021 Pirelli will decide how many ring teams to receive. Each team will now receive eight sets of soft tires, three sets of medium-sized tires and two sets of hard tires for each event.
